Head lice infestation may ordinarily occur in children, but it can happen to anyone, particularly to those who have children at home. You see, its part of children's play to get physically close with whomever they are playing with, that's why they are the easy targets when it comes to acquiring the infestation. And when they do get head lice, it isn't unlikely that they can, and will, pass it on the rest of the household.
Let's face it - head lice can be pretty embarrassing. Sure, it doesn't easily pose a serious health risk, except for the occasional bacterial infection. However, hundreds of nits and the sores in the scalp and nape area can get pretty hideous to look at. That is why you need to effectively kill those pesky parasites and remove their remnants. One way to do exactly that is by using lice comb.
Get Rid Mosquitoes
A lice comb has a set of comparatively finer and closer-set teeth, with the space between teeth no more than a third of a millimeter. After all, the intention is to comb out lice and nymphs. These combs may be made of plastic or metal. The plastic ones are cheaper and are sold in discrete outlets so they can be easily acquired. However, with plastic lice combs, spacing between teeth aren't likely to be maintained. Some teeth might snap off and others might go every which way, so you can't expect to use it for a long time. Metal plastic combs are more expensive. However, they are more durable and they are much easier to disinfect, because metal can hold heat and you know how most bacteria cannot stand easily hot surfaces.
Another type is the electric lice comb, sometimes called Robi comb. You have probably seen one of those electric mosquito zappers. Sometimes, light is used to attract insects and kill them with a very small estimate of electricity. An electric comb works in a similar fashion. Head lice scuttle away from light though so they aren't going anywhere near. But the electric comb, when it is close enough, would zap a nit, a nymph or an adult head louse. You won't feel anything, except the burnt exiguous buggers would smell and you'd have to wash your hair to get rid of the odor.
When using the non-electric lice comb, it is recommended that you wet your hair and untangle knots with an ordinary hair comb. It is even great if you can use hair conditioner. Try to comb from the roots to the tip. You should easily focus on the scalp because adult lice tend to stay closer on the scalp. You should also pay attention to the ear and neck or nape area. eye the comb, every particular time you run it straight through your hair, otherwise, you might end up putting the head lice back in. Do that for colse to 10 minutes.
The recommended time span for using a lice comb is 2 weeks, maybe even more than that. This is because after removing adult lice for three days, the nits would probably hatch within 10 days. So you'd have to continually comb until there are no adults left to breed and all the nits have hatched. After getting rid of lice, the nits would most likely remain, but they will be, by then, empty.
Lice discharge can be very efficient with the use of a lice comb. That, coupled with quarterly hair brushing is the key to get rid of lice and nits, dead or alive. Nits, even the empty ones can take months or even years to totally disappear, as there is a substance that sort of keeps them glued to the hair strand. When your peace of mind and well being is at stake, you cannot afford to wait that long, can you?
